In 1992 Elexsis took her first painting class, a Bob Ross mountain scene, in her home town of Wilmington, North Carolina. Needless to say she fell in love with painting…enough that she refused to miss her next Saturday class— despite winds of 80 MPH that were blowing down trees, as well as, the business sign next door.
However, it wasn’t until 2001 when she was able to devote more time to her new passion. She spent the next several years taking classes and expanding her knowledge and experience. Initially she returned to the Rob Ross technique and quickly proceeded to become a Bob Ross Certified instructor in both landscapes and florals.
However to further her skills she attended additinal classes with Dorothy Dent and after falling in love with Dorothy’s techniques and subject matter, Elexsis went on to focus on additional classes in 2004-2005 which culminated with a teacher’s certification from Dorothy Dent.
While she paints more with Oils, in 2003 she received certification as a Donna Dewberry One Stoke acrylic instructor, and taught classes at the local YMCA in this method of painting.
Elexsis has traveled around the country attending classes with such renowned artists as Lynne Pittard, Brenda Harris, Peggy Harris,Gary Jenkins, Valerie Stewart and Gloria Perkins. As you can see, she enjoys taking classes to learn new techniques and pick up new ideas that she can share with others.
To share her passion, she has been teaching at a number of locations in both North Carolina and South Carolina:
the local YMCA in Wilmington, NC where she taught for 10 years
AC Moore Arts & Crafts stores in Myrtle Beach, SC and in Wilmington, NC
Southeastern Community College in Whiteville, NC
her personal studio – Inspirations by Elexsis @ 1629 41st Street, Wimington, NC
Elexsis continues to offer a variety of classes in her hometown of Wilmington. Be sure to check out her calendar or give her a call to see what will be offered next…910-612-5223.
